Sea Turtle Lap Blanket

The latest completed project composed of a 50" wide x 62" long blanket of a swimming sea turtle.  It took me a few tries to get a realistic pattern that could be understood with just 5 colors.  I used a variegated yarn to add some dimension which worked with the illusion of being underwater.

That being said I was reluctant to use that much black yarn.... always the hardest color to work with.  It took 4 skeins (~1200 yards) of black yarn that run throughout each and every row.  It took a lot of practice and patience to keep my tension the same when carrying the other colors and wrapping them into the each black stitch so they don't show through.

In the end, it was worth it!  I would like to see this project done is some other colors - a deep blue or teal or maybe even a lighter version with a sea blue background and a lighter tan/yellow turtle in the foreground.

The layout of this project is horizontal versus the usually vertical photo I do.  It fits great at the end of the bed and is heavy enough to keep you warm on the cool days ahead.  Let me know what you think!
